Wednesday's Walk: St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell, Massachusetts

Yesterday, upon finding my great-great grandmother, Rose Ann Moran nee Kelley's obituary and funeral write up at the Pollard Memorial Library, I decided to go to St. Patrick cemetery to find her grave.

St. Patrick Cemetery is located at 1251 Gorham St., in Lowell. Established in 1832, it is Lowell's first Catholic cemetery.

According to her marriage record, Rose Moran nee Kelley was born abt 1873 in England. A daughter of Patrick and Rose, she was married to Michael Morran [sic] on 11 April, 1895 in Lowell, MA, by a Jms. J. Dacey [Mass Archives - Morran Michael, Lowell, 1895, 452, 212 Marriage]. Rose and Michael had six known children, Arthur, John, Robert, Francis, Rose and Della. After her husband Michael dies in 1906 [Mass Archives - Moran Michael, Lowell, 1906, 56, 278, Death], Rose is listed in the 1907 Lowell Directory as Rose A widow of Michael 32 Cross. Rose remained in the Acre through out her life. Moving around quite a few times, in 1950 she is listed in the directory as living at 14 Dutton. However, her 1951 obituary write up her residence is noted as being at 125 Mt. Vernon Street. I can only surmise that she moved to Mt. Vernon St. to be with her son, Francis Moran, and his family at the time. Perhaps she moved in with him because she was sick, as the obituary then goes on to state that she died at the Delaney Nursing Home.

Published on Thursday, 20 Dec., 1951, page 3, her obituary reads:

MRS ROSE A. MORAN
Mrs. Rose Ann (Kelly) Moran, widow of Michael Moran and a well known resident of this city, making her home at 125 Mt. Vernon street, died last evening at the Delaney Nursing home after a lingering illness.  She was born in England, the daughter of the late Patrick and the late Rose (Dacey) Kelly, but early in life came to this city. She was an attendant of St. Patrick's church. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Francis J. Boyle and Miss Frances Moran of Chicago, Ill; four sons, Arthur P. Moran of Westford, John Moran of Brooklyn N. Y., Robert M. Moran and Francis A. Moran of this city; many grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

According to cemetery records, Rose A Moran, age 72, was buried on 21, Dec., 1951 in section R, lot 16.  Section R is right behind the chapel on the right, her grave was easy to find. Buried with her daughter, Rose E. Boyle nee Moran, and her daughter's husband, Francis J. 'Phinney' Boyle, as well as with her grandson, Francis J. Jr. There is a flat marker at the grave, but Rose's name does not appear on it..

After finding Rose's grave, I decided to go see if I could find her husband, Michael Moran's grave. According to the cemetery records Michael Marin [sic] was buried on 17 Dec., 1906  in yard 3, range 41, lot 38. I could not locate the grave because there's still snow in the section where I believe it to be. Michael is buried with a Mary J. McHugh, Thomas, McHugh, Thomas Carmody, Margaret Carmody, and two other Mary J. McHughs.

Tombstone Tuesday: Louis Mayotte, Cimetiere St-Joseph, Chelmsford, Massachusetts

Louis Mayotte, the son of Olympe (Jean-Louis, Eualie Roberge) and Marie Alice Blanche Jodoin (Joseph, Parmelie Dupont), was the brother of my youngest daughter's great-grandmother, Celine Courtois nee Mayotte. Louis died in Lowell Massachusetts on 15 February, 1934 at the age of 26. He is buried in Section Q, lot 89 with his parents and two of his brothers, Olympe Gerard and Jerome. I have included his obituary below.

Unfortunately, the exact publication information of the obituary is not known. However, I am led to believe that it was published in the Franco-American newspaper, L'Etoile. I have included a translation below.

Ce jeune boulanger etait proprietaire de la boulangerie Sunkist  dans la rue Cheever. ---Funerailles a 9h.15 lundi matin a St-Jean-Baptiste.

C'est avec regret    que les nom breux amis de M. Louis Mayotte du numero 201,   rue  Cheever  apprendront la nouvelle de sa mort survenue hier apres-midi a l'hopital St-Joseph, a l'age de 26 ans, 7 mois et 19 jours.

Il etait ne et avait ete eleve en cette ville depuis cinq ans il etait proprietaire de la boulangerie Sunkist, situee sur la rue Cheever. Il etait un jeune homme d'un caratere doux et aimable et un jeune Franco-Americain estime.

Il laisse son espous Mme. Lilliane Mayotte nee Frenette:, deux enfants, Andre et Paul mayotte; ses parents, M et Mme Olympe (Jodoin) Mayotte; deux soeurs, Mlls Celine et Therese Mayotte, et trois freres, Jerome, Gerard et Robert Mayotte. ? etait membre de la Societe de la Sainte-Famille de la paroisse St-Joseph. Le defunt tut transporte a la demeure de ses parents, 215 rue Cheever par l'entrepreneur M-R. Laurin.

Ses funerailles imposantes auront lieu lundi matin a 8h.15 de la demeure mortuaire. Le service solennel sera celebre a 9h.15 en l'eglise St-jean-baptiste avec diacre, sousdiacre et choeur de chant. Parents et amis sont pries d'y assister L'inhumation se fera dans le lot de la famille au cimetiere St-Joseph.

Les arrangements funeraires ont ete confies l'entrepreneur M.-R. Laurin.

  It is with deep regret that the many friends of Mr. Louis Mayotte, number 201, Cheever street,. will learn the news of his death yesterday morning at St.-Joseph hospital, at the age of 26 years, 7 months and 19 days.

He was born and bred in this city and became the owner of the Sunkist bakery, located at Cheever street, five years ago. He was a young man of  character,  sweet and kind, a young Franco-American that everybody loved..

He leaves his bride Mrs. Lilliane Mayotte nee Frenette; two children, Andre and Paul Mayotte, his parents, Mr. and Ms. Olympe (Jodoin) Mayotte, two sisters, Misses Celine and Therese Mayotte, and three brothers, Jerome, and Robert Gerard Mayotte. He was a member of Societe de la Sainte-Famille at St-Joseph parish. The undertaker M R Laurin carried the deceased to the house of his parents, at 215 Cheever St

An impressive funeral will begin Monday morning at 8:15 at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at 9:15 at St-Jean-Baptiste with deacon, sub-deacon and choir. Friends and family are invited. The burial will take place in the family plot in St-Joseph's cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to undertaker M.-R. Laurin.

Tombstone Tuesday: Marie Louise Leontine Lefebvre nee Robillard, Cimetiere St-Joseph, Chelmsford, Massachusetts

This week for Tombstone Tuesday I am posting the final resting place of my great-grand aunt Marie-Louise-Leontine Robillard. Leontine, as I call her, was born and baptized on 6 Nov., 1868 in Ste-Melanie, Joliette co., Quebec. She was the daughter of Jerome and Sophie Riberdy. She was the 7th child born to Jerome and Sophie Riberdy.

According to Family Search Record Search, Leontine married Victor Lefebvre (Joseph, Eugenie or Virgine Jacob) on 6 Sept., 1887 in Lowell, Middlesex, Massachusetts. I need to obtain more records to verify the date of this marriage.

Also, there is some confusion surrounding the date of Leontine's death. Family Search Record Search has her date of death as 5 Dec., 1911 in Lowell, but St-Joseph Cemetery has her date of burial as 1 Dec., 1911. Further research must be done to try and clear the confusion.

According to the cemetery records, Leontine is buried in section J, lot 514. She is buried with her son Victor, who, according to cemetery records, was buried on 26 July 1948. Also, in the same plot is a Rene Deziel, Joseph Broulet, Rose Deziel and a Joseph Paquin. I have not found an obituary for Leontine yet and the research surrounding this family is on going. Buried here are my maternal g-g-grandparents, Joseph Adam Maille and his wife Marie Amanda Prud'homme. As well as their son, Ludger Maille, and his wife Beatrice Bonin.

Leodore is not related to me. These photos were shot while doing other research in the cemetery. What caught my eye here was the broken rifle and the appearance and feeling of loneliness that I felt surrounding this stone.

Curious, I looked up Leo very quickly on ancestry and this is what I found.

It seems as though Leo's parentage is unknown.  But according to census records and a public tree, he was born abt. 1895 in Rhode Island. Unable to find a 1900 census enumeration of Leo. I did find him enumerated in the 1910 census living with the St. Armand family on Austin St in Lowell., age 15, brother-in-law to the head, Napoleon St. Armand.. Leo married (according to the public tree) Angele Harvey circa.1921 in Lowell. In 1930 the family of Leo and Angele are enumerated living on Lakeview Rd. in Tyngsboro, MA. They had one son, Roland, who was 9 years old. Residing with with the family were a niece and nephew, Leo & Irene Letourneau.  Also, according to the public tree, Leo dies on 31 Jan., 1932 in Lowell, MA. I think I would like to do a more in depth research on Leo, to verify things and  to find out who his parents were and where they came from etc.. but I don't have the time right now..

Tombstone Tuesday: Jerome Mayotte, Cimetière Saint-Joseph, Chelmsford, Massachusetts

Jerome Mayotte was the son of Olympe (Jean-Louis, Eualie Roberge) and Marie Alice Blanche Jodoin (Joseph, Parmelie Dupont). He was born c. 1913 in Lowell, MA, the brother of Louis, Olympe Gerard,  Celine, Therese, Gerard and Robert. He died 17 April 1938 and was buried in Section Q, lot 89 on 20 April, 1938. His obituary appears in the 18 April 1938 edition of the Lowell Sun on page 3.

Jerome Mayotte, husband of Blanche (Bernard) Mayotte of 235 Pleasant street, Dracut died last night at St. Joseph's hospital after a short illnes, aged 24 years. He leaves his wife; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Olympe (Jodoin) Mayotte; two sisters, Mrs. Albert Beaudry and Miss Therese Mayotte and two brothers, Girard and Albert Mayotte of Lowell. The body was removed to the Archambault funeral home at 205 Pawtucket street where relatives and friends may call.

The funeral of Jerome Mayotte of 235 Pleasant street, Dracut who died Sunday at St. Joseph's hospital took place this morning at 8'oclock from the funeral home, 205 Pawtucket street. Many relatives and friends, including many from out-of-town were present. At 9 o'clock at St. Jean Baptiste church a solemn high funeral mass was celebrated by Rev. Arthur O. Mercier of St. Therese church, Dracut, assisted by Rev. Narcisse Cotnoir, O M I, as deacon and Rev. Alphone Breault, O M I, as sub-deacon. Seated on the sanctuary was Rev. Eugene Fournier O M I., of St. Joseph's church. The choir, under the direction of Georges Ayotte, sang the requiem mass by Pietro a Yon. The solos were sustained by Eugene Corbeil, Rodolphe Morirsette, Lionel Turcotte and Lucien Morrisette. As the body was taken from the church, Requiem ? was sung by the choir. Mrs. Georges Ayotte was the organist. The bearers were Gerard ?, Leo Blanchette, Arthur Michelin, Gerard Jodoin, Arthur Paradis and Donald Chaput. Burial was in the family lot in St. Joseph's cemetery were committal prayers were read by Rev. Fr. Mercier. There were many flowers. Funeral Directors Amdee Archambault & Sons were in charge.

 This headstone should have been posted long ago..

 Buried with her mother, Rita G. Moran; her father, Paul E. Maille and her maternal grandmother, Marie Yvonne Ferron. My mother was the first to be buried in this plot, her inscription should read Pauline G. (Maille) Robillard or even Pauline G. Robillard nee Maille. Sadly, lots of disagreement plagued the events leading up to and following the death of my mother in 1982.

Sr. Bernadette Dies at 39

NICOLET, P. Q. -- Sister Bernadette of the Immaculate, Sisters of the Assumption died here yesterday. She was 39. Sister Bernadette, the former Rita Daigle, was born in Dracut, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Moses L. (Emma Maille)  Daigle. She attended Lowell Schools and entered the convent 17 years ago. She taught school in Salem, Lowell, Northbridge and Milbury while a member of the order. She is survived by her father, Moses Daigle; a sister Mrs. Claire E. Masse; two brothers, Ludger M. and Raymond I. Daigle, all of Dracut.

Rita Daigle was my 1st cousin 2x removed. Her father, Moise, was a son of Louis and Anastasie Marcoux.

Tombstone Tuesday: Franco-American War Veterans' Memorial, Cimetière Saint-Joseph, Chelmsford, Massachusetts

For this week's Tombstone Tuesday I made a special visit to the Franco-American War Veterans' Memorial at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Chelmsford, Massachusetts.

The monument, which was dedicated on Tuesday, May 30th, 1933, sits at what was once the main entrance of the cemetery along Riverneck Road and is made from the highest grade granite. It is twenty-one and one-half feet long, five and one-half feet in height, by one and one-half feet wide, and is surmounted with 3 flag staffs.

On the left and right sides of the monument there are the following inscriptions; A LA MEMOIRE DE CEUX QUI TOMBERENT, and  EN L’HONNEUR DE CEUX QUI SERVIRENT  which translate to: IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO DIED, IN HONOR OF THOSE WHO SERVED. In the center of the monument there is the inscriptions GUERRE MONDIALE, 1917-1918 and LES FRANCO-AMERICAINS RECONNAISSANTS. which translate to:  WORLD WAR 1917 - 1918, GRATEFUL FRANCO-AMERICANS

According to Albert V. Cote's website, The Franco-Americans in Lowell, Massachusetts, the monument was refurbished by the Franco-American War Veterans, Post No.4 of Lowell, MA, in the early 1990s. This refurbishment added two brass plates (I did not find) and the English translations of the left and right side inscriptions. Also added was the inscription, FRANCO-AMERICAN WAR VETERANS POST NO. 4 1995. And to the back of the monument, Refurbish Committe May 27, 1995. Ronald Sevigny, Roland Provencher, Arthur Papillion, Ronald Guilmette, Leo Cloutier and Leo Martin.

The first Veteran to be buried at the memorial  was *Alfred Peter Barron, Seaman 2 Cl., USN. He died on 11 October, 1933 and was interred on 14 October.

On May 31, 1933, there was an article that appeared in Lowell Sun describing the dedication ceremony of this memorial on pages 6 & 7. I have extracted some of that article below. 

Erected to honor the memory of Franco-American war heroes, this monument was dedicated on Tuesday, May 30, 1933 in an open air ceremony at St. Joseph's cemetery in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. The dedication was largely attended and a musical program was provided by an augmented choir under the direction of Telesphore Malo, director of the choir at St. Joseph's parish.

Delegations from the many Franco-American organizations in the area were there, as well as: Guard St. Louis, Sacred Heart Guard, Franco-American veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, United Spanish War Veterans, Boy Scouts of America, the C. M. A. C. and the Jewish War Veterans. There was a mass and the eulogy was delivered by Rev. J. A. Fortier, OMI, a former war chaplain and pastor of Notre Dame de Lourdes church in Lowell . The monument, unveiled by Spanish war hero, Lieut. Georges Charette, U. S. N. retired, was presented to the Franco-American population by Arthur H.R. Groux, president and general chairman of the committee in charge of erecting it. Received and accepted by Rev. Louis G. Bachand OMI, superior of St. Joseph's parish, he gave a brief acceptance speech. Also, a burial plot was presented to the American Legion and accepted by Commander James H. Rooney, followed by a few words by Rev. Willliam F. Mahan, OMI, chaplain of the post.

Tombstone Tuesday: Sophie Kluck nee Malinoski, St. Patrick's Cemetery, Lowell, Massachusetts

Well, I couldn't wait for April (my daughter) any longer. We were supposed to do this together but I just couldn't wait. You could say I had ants in my pants, so I went at it alone. Digging into the Kluck family history today, I found a census record, a few obituaries and a burial marker.

The census record I found was a 1930 census of  Lowell Ma, ward 10. The family was living at 40 Union street. Enumerated on 7 April of that year, the head is John, age 34, first marriage at the age of 24, born in Lithuania, as are both his parents. His year of immigration is 1914 and he is an alien. He's a carpenter and he is not a veteran. John's wife Sophie is 40 years old, first marriage at age 30. She is born in Lithuania as are both her parents. Her year of immigration is 1913 and she is an alien. The oldest child is John Jr (April's grandfather), he's 13 years old and born in Massachusetts. Next is Sophie, 10 years old also born in MA. Then we have Mary, age 7, born in MA and Joseph age 5, also born in MA.

So for today's Tombstone Tuesday I will post the burial marker and obituary of Sophie Kluck nee Malinoski, According to the cemetery records Sophie was 69 years old when she died, but the marker has a year of 1886 for her birth. The cemetery records also have her being interred on 28 Jan. 1962 and that She is buried with a Marie Kluck. Marie was interred on 16 Jan 2004 and she was 87 years of age. I do not know who Marie is at this time. Also on this marker there is an incomplete inscription for a Joseph Kluck, I do believe that Joseph is Sophie and John's youngest son and the brother of John Kluck, my daughter's grandfather. Maybe I should try and contact Joseph, if he is still alive.

Mrs. Sophie Kluck (Malinoski) Kluck of 651 Middlesex street, widow of John Kluck, died last night at Lowell General hospital. She was born in Lithuania having come to the United States at an early age and had been a resident of this city for the past 50 years.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Lithuanian parish. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sophie Pilat of Dracut and Mrs. Mary Palermo of Lawrence; two sons, John Kluck and Joseph Kluck, both of Lowell; a sister and a brother in Lithuania; and five grandchildren.

KLUCK---Died July 23, Mrs. Sophie (Malinoski) Kluck of 651 Middlesex street. Funeral Saturday at 8am from the Miksza funeral home, 48 Lawrence street. Solemn high funeral mass at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Lithuanian church. Burial in St. Patrick's cemetery. Visiting hours 7 to 10 p.m. today and 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Friday. Funeral Director Walter A. Mikzsa.

I searched high and low for an obituary belonging to Sophie's husband, John, but I could not find one.

Tombstone Tuesday: Joseph Albert and Athala Caron, Cimetière Saint-Joseph, Chelmsford, Massachusetts

Buried here is Joseph Albert and his wife, Athala Caron.  Baptized at the parish of  St-Eloi, Riviere-du-Loop, Quebec on the 26th of February, 1869,  Joseph was the son of Felix Albert (Fermin, Celeste Bergeron dit Damboise) and Marie Desneiges Michaud (Alexandre, Zoe Pelletier). Athala, Joseph's wife, was born, according to the headstone, in 1864. However, I can only find one baptismal record for an Athala Caron and that is in 1861 at St-Jean-Port-Joli, L'Islet, Quebec. The father of the aforementioned Athala is documented as being Moise Caron and the mother is Apolline, I can not read the mother's surname.

Below is the baptismal record for Joseph Albert from the parish of St-Eloi, Riviere-du-Loop. According to this record he was born le vingt duex ? (22)  du meme mois (of this month).

In the record cited above, Athala's mother is only recorded as being Apolline.

On 23 June 1900 the family of Joseph Albert was enumerated in the 12trh census of the United States, living at Jodoin Place in Lowell, Massachusetts. Joseph, the head, is recorded as being born in Feb of 1868. He is 31 years old and, according to the census, has been married for 9 years. He was born in Canada-French (Quebec) as were both his parents. The year of his immigration to the United States is 1881, he has been here for 19 years. He is an alien immigrant and his profession is that of an Undertaker with zero months not employed. Also, according to the census, he can neither read nor write, but he can speak English. Joseph Albert rents his home.

Athala, Joseph's wife, is enumerated as being Athela. according to the census, she was born Nov. 1864. She is married and has been for 9 years, four children out of five births are living and she too was born in Canada-French, as were her parents. Her year of immigration is 1883 and she has been in the United States for 17 years. The status of her citizenship is blank, she can read and write and speak English.

The children of Joseph and Athala are recorded on the census as follows:

2. Bernadette - daughter/w/f/Aug/1893/6/s/Mass/CanFr/CanFr/at school/10/yes/

There is also a Pierre Caron living with the family, he is enumerated as being Joseph's brother-in-law. Recorded as being born in February of 1864, if Pierre is Athala's brother this date certainly conflicts with her  given birth date, doesn't it? I believe the census records Pierre as being widowed, he was born Canada-French, as were both his parents. His year of immigration is 1883, he has been in the united States for 17 years, he's an alien and his occupation is that of a Hostler (?). He can read, write and speak English.

In 1910 the couple, Joseph and Athala, are living on Cheever st. in Lowell. There are two more daughters, Dorila, age 7 and Claire, age 4. According to the census, Athala has now given birth eleven times but only 6 children are living. Joseph is still an undertaker, but now he owns his own shop and is also an employer.

In 1920 Joseph Albert is living with three of his daughters, Dorila, Claire, Maria F, a son-in-law, Edward J. Lynch, who is Maria's husband, and a maid. Athala, Joseph's wife, died in 1918 and Joseph will die on 27 September 1930. Please click the link above to read Athala's obituary. I am still searching for Joseph's.

In 1930 Joseph's son, Joseph Jr, is recorded in the 1930 census, on April 2nd of that year, living at 476 Merrimack st., he is recorded as being 32 years old. His wife, recorded as Florina, is 19. Age at first marriage for both of them is their age at which the census was taken. There are no children. Joseph Jr. is noted as being an embalmer in a Funeral parlor. Is Joseph Jr. getting ready to take over his father's business or had he already?

Yesterday when I was therelooking for a few stones I found a turtle making his way around. Cute huh. He was leaving the Via Crucis here. When I made my way back about 10 minutes later he was in the street, so I helped him along.

I also found a flat marker for a Joseph H. Lecuyer 1896 - 1947 and an Agnes Lecuyer 1898 - in the woods right where you enter the Via Crucis. The marker had about 4 feet of solid cement adhered to the bottom of it. I meant to go into the office and ask them if they were aware of it but I forgot.

I love this cemetery, I always feel a great sense of inner peace when I am there. I want to be buried by the lilacs..

Tombstone Tuesday: Ferron/Simoneau, Cimetière Saint-Joseph, Chelmsford, Massachusetts

Sec. C., lot # unknown. I need to get a copy of the paper work for this plot. I took the top picture last Saturday and the bottom one the weekend before. Those are Gerbera daisies in the planters. My girls helped me plant them last weekend.

According to the headstone, buried here are Georgianna (Rabouin) Ferron and her husband Claude. Claude and his first wife, Celina Lamay's daughter, Celina Ferron. Claude and Georgianna's son, Joseph Edmond Ferron. Claude and Georgianna's grandson, a son of Yvonne Ferron and John Moran, John Moran. Alfred Simoneau, husband of Claude and Georgianna's daughter Victoria (Ferron) Simoneau, who is also buried here and Blanche Aldea (Ferron) Guilmette, wife of Alfred P. Guilmette, also a daughter of Claude and Georgianna. All of the obituaries for the people mentioned above, except for John Moran's, have been posted to my blog.

Tombstone Tuesday: Albert Courtois & Celine Mayotte, Cimetière Saint-Joseph, Chelmsford, Massachusetts

Section E, lot 142. Buried here is Albert H. Courtois. Albert was born the 30th of December, 1903 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of Theophile Courtois and Victoria Monbleau. He married Celine Mayotte and died on the 29th of April 1986. Celine Mayotte, Albert's wife, daughter of Olympe Mayotte and Marie-Blanche-Alice Jodoin, was born on the 16th of July, 1915 in Lowell, Massachusetts. She died on the 29th of October 1970 in Lowell, MA.

Tombstone Tuesday: Edouard Savard & Malvina Otis, Cimetière Saint-Joseph, Chelmsford, Massachusetts

Sec. BB, lot 44. Buried here is Edouard Savard, a son of Francois Xavier Savard and Anselme Picard. Edouard is believed to have been born in May of 1885, in Lowell, MA. On October 20th, 1907 he married Malvina Otis, a daughter of Cyrille Otis and Adele LaMontange, at St. Jean Baptiste church in Lowell. Edouard died at home, 243 White St., in Lowell, on September 23rd, 1928. Malvina, also buried here, died on February 12th, 1975 at the Glenside Nursing Home, also in Lowell.

Tombstone Tuesday: The Robillard Family, Cimetière Saint Joseph, Chelmsford, Massachusetts

Here in this plot, Sec. C, Lot 12, are our Robillards. All of whom, at one time or another, were residents of Lowell, Massachusetts. Buried here are, Louis Joseph Zenon, 40 years old; who was the brother of Joseph Arthur Robillard, 69; who was the husband of Philomene Foucher, 71; who was the mother of Joseph Rosario, 54; who was the husband of Noella Bernier (Thurber), 79; who was the sister in law of Joseph Zenon Heria Robillard, 85; who was the husband of Louise E Wright, 93; who I think was the mother of Joseph 2j. I have the documentation for this plot and it is to be noted that, according to the plot documentaion, Joseph Rosario Robillard was removed from CT and buried at St-Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford, MA in Oct. of 1946. He died in Bronx VA Hospital on 18 Oct. 1945. Sadly, I have yet to find an obituary for him.

Tombstone Tuesday: Oscar Robillard, 1898, Lowell, Massachusetts - Where We Connect

During my genealogical research of the Robillard family I found an article that was printed the Lowell Sun on 6 Oct 1898 in regard to an Oscar Robillard whom passed away the previous day. Well, I was at the cemetery today and I believe I found his headstone. In the article it states he is survived by his parents and 3 brothers.

Oscar Robillard, aged 24 years, died today as the result of a bicycle accident which occured about two months ago, when the deceased fell from his wheel, sustaining slight injuries, it was thought, of the groin. After the accident, he walked home and was attended by Dr. Patenaude. Robillard had been about, however, notwithstanding some pain caused by the injusries, but yesterday he was taken to his bed, and died several hours after.

He resides at 1 Old City Hall avenue, with his parents. Nine years ago Robillard came to this city from Canada, in a town of which he was born. He was well-known and highly respected in French circles. Besides his parents, he is survived by three brothers.

If you notice in the headline of the article it states that he died yesterday, but in the article it self it states he died today. The headstone is scribed with the date of the 5th, which would have been yesterday..Lol.

On 10 Oct 1898 in The Lowell Sun on pg. 8 there is his report of death..

In this record it states that Oscar's father was married before his marraige to Oscar's mother. So in order to find out who Oscar's father's parents were I had to go looking for that marriage and I found it too at BMS2000. Ambroise Robillard and Louise Bordeleau were married 6 Sep 1864 at St-Ambroise-de-Kildare, Joliette. Ambroise's parent's are Joseph Forgeron (a forgeron is a blacksmith) and Luce Routier. Joseph and Luce Routier were married 31 Jan 1832 at Ste-Elisabeth, Joliette, Joseph's parent's are Raphael and Genevieve Eneau [Henault?]. Raphael Forgeron (blacksmith) Robillard and Geneveive Heneault dit Porneauf married 11 Jan 1808 at Ste-Elisabeth. (all BMS2000) Raphael's parent's are Pierre Robillard and Marie Joly. Pierre and Marie marry on 15 Feb 1768 St-Genevieve, Berthier (BMS2000). Pierre's parents are Pierre Robillard and Marie Angelique Marette dit Lepine Richard (PRDH). They are married in April of 1742 at Lanoraie. Pierre's parents are Pierre Robillard and Catherine Coutu, married 5 Nov 1715 at St-Sulpice (PRDH). And we all know who Pierre's parent's are right? ?? Ah come on... You know! It's Claude Robillard and Marie Grandin. See... you got it, and there is where Oscar's line connects with mine. Right at the very begininng of the earliest Robillard line in Quebec.
